| Hello Friend!
As a manager or leader in your organization you are well aware of the importance of performance management and the unpleasant task of having to let an employee go who just can't meet his or her performance expectations.
Our lead article offers four final items to consider before you terminate a problem employee.
Our second article presents a quick exercise in personal accountability. It is short and painless and should open your eyes to who's really responsible for many of the problems and frustrations we face everyday.
Power quote:
-Zig Ziglar |
| Before you Fire that Problem Employee... |
Managing employee performance is the keystone of effective leadership and can be the most challenging of a manager's many duties.
When performance expectations go repeatedly unmet a manager is often left with little choice but to terminate the employee and let them find more inspiring work elsewhere.
However, before you pull the trigger and fire an under-performing employee, there are a couple of things to consider that may be the cause of the poor performance that should be addressed before the desire for termination is acted on.

Who Are You Really Pointing the Finger of Blame at? |
Take a moment and share in an exercise of personal accountability with me. It's short and sweet - I promise...
Take your right hand and point at something nearby that frustrates you, annoys you, or makes you angry. What was it? The telephone? The lengthy to-do list laying on your desk? Or perhaps it is your manager's office or a co-worker in a neighboring cubicle?
Now take a good look at the hand you are pointing with. Do you notice anything peculiar?
Every time you point your finger in blame of someone or something there are three fingers pointing right back at you. It is impossible to point the finger of blame at someone or something without simultaneously pointing a finger back at yourself.
You might be asking yourself what exactly this is supposed to mean.
