| Sorry, I Blew Your Training Budget |
On behalf of all those people who have called themselves "trainers" (past or present), I apologize. Yes. Your training dollars have been wasted and chances are you are getting little to no return on your investment for your training dollar. No, it isn't on purpose. It's just seems to happen that way.
For example, have you ever bought a book at the airport, read it on your flight, and were so completely taken back by its message that you send your entire team through a training program based on the book.
What happened a month, or even a week later? That's right, things are right back to the way they were. Why is this?
The problem is that training organizations are all to willing to take your training dollars and deliver the training that you think you need.
But is this really the training your organization needs? Self diagnosis can be risky business. A better approach is to truly understand what it takes for a team member to be successful in their position and then asses training needs accordingly.

Every organization can benefit from a culture that lives, breathes, and eats personal accountability. When an organization embraces such a culture its customers benefit and as a result the organization as a whole benefits from gaining loyal customers and generating greater revenues and positive word of mouth advertising.
I recently had an experience with a fast food franchise that truly underscores the importance of developing a culture of personal accountability. This organization missed so many opportunities to practice personal accountability and improve the experience of every customer that day.

I told her that while not every organization is lucky enough to offer jobs such as an astronaut for NASA or train Shamu at Sea World, there is a way to determine if an individual will be likely to enjoy a particular position within her organization.
