| Hello Friend!
We've got another great newsletter for you this week. Our lead article offers six signs that your organization isn't as competitive as it could be. Competition is only going to heat up as the economy cools down and this article should help your organization identify any "competitive gaps" that it may have.
Our second article discusses the importance of using internships and job shadowing to reduce employee turnover caused by employees who quit when they discover they don't care for their chosen line of work. If your organization is suffering from an abundance of job-hoppers, this article offers some tips that will help.
As always we have a QBQ! Personal Accountability QuickNote from John Miller and a great article by Dr. John C. Maxwell as part of our Featured Guru series.

| 6 Clues Your Organization Isn't Competitive |
Competition these days is fiercer than it has ever been. The scary truth is that if your organization isn't continually evolving and improving, it is in danger of extinction.
While there are a number of factors that determine if your organization is highly competitive in its industry, our years of consulting experience have led us to identify six common clues that an organization is vulnerable to its competition.

Using Internships and Job Shadowing to Reduce Employee Turnover |
Take a look around your office... How many of your fellow team members are in positions they went to college for?
The number is probably pretty low. Perhaps you are one of them...
The truth is that most of us don't have a clue what type of career we will enjoy or are fit for when we choose a field of study in college. It isn't until we finally get into the "real world" that we realize we don't really like what we studied in college and our chosen profession.
Now what?
Jump ship and try something new of course! If the next job isn't what we were hoping for, try something else. The job after that... lather, rinse, and repeat. I think you get my drift.
Maybe after five or six attempts we find something we like and stick around. All this job hopping costs organizations dearly in the form of high turnover costs, lost productivity, and reduced employee moral.
The truth is that that most organizations don't do a very good job of providing candidates with an insight into what a career with their organization and industry is really like and end up paying for it down the road.
Internships and job shadowing are a great way to provide potential employees this critical insight.
