| Greetings!
We've got a great newsletter for you this week! Our lead article examines the costs that organizations incur by retaining the wrong employees. These costs should be a real eye opener for you if you are continually dealing with "problem" team members.
We also have an article on a popular trend these days: telecommuting. While telecommuting can be great when done properly, it can have disastrous outcomes when the wrong individuals are put in a telecommuter position. We offer a few helpful hints for anyone considering hiring for a telecommuting position.
This week's newsletter also includes a QBQ! Personal Accountability QuickNote article by John miller as well as a featured article by the legendary Jack Welch as part of our Featured Guru Series.
Best wishes,
Your partners at The Rainmaker Group

| How Much is Retaining the Wrong Employee Costing You? |
We see it all the time... organizations that bend over backwards to retain employees who simply are not right for the job.
The results are highly predictable... Lowered morale, lost time, missed opportunities, reduced productivity, and of course a bottom line that isn't as healthy as it should be.
As a manager how much time are you spending each day retaining employees who just aren't right for the job? What could you do with this time and resources?

Hiring the Right Employee - Not Everyone can Telecommute |
Chris Young - Founder, The Rainmaker Group
Telecommuting is big right now, and for good reason as it promises reduced overhead costs for organizations already at their office space's capacity as well as other benefits and cost savings to the employer.
Telecommuting also offers employees greater freedom and flexibility in the form of eliminated or reduced commute times and a more comfortable work environment.
I have personally witnessed telecommuting work beautifully and conversely I have witnessed telecommuting fail miserably.
Through my experiences as a telecommuter and a manager of those who are telecommuters I have found the single largest factor in determining the success of a telecommuting arrangement is hiring the right person for the telecommuting role.
Telecommuting requires discipline, commitment, and above all else personal accountability. Some people have it, while others simply do not.

| Featured Guru - Jack Welch |
As far as big names in the business world go, they don't get much bigger than Jack Welch. Welch is well known for his illustrious 40 year career with General Electric, the last 20 of which he served as chairman and CEO.
For Jack Welch business is all about performance and is well know for his brutal candor with his direct reports.
So focused on performance was Welch, that he made a practice of firing the bottom 10% of his managers each year, while distributing bonuses and stock options to the top 20% of his managers. Welch's propensity for eliminating under-performers ultimately led him to be dubbed "Neutron Jack" by fearful employees after the nuclear bomb that vaporizes people but leaves building standings.
While Welch's approach to performance management has been criticized by some, there is little doubt that it ultimately contributed to much of the success that GE enjoyed under Welch's lead.
Jack Welch has authored several books including the best sellers Winning and Jack: Straight from the Gut. Along with his wife Suzy, Welch authors a weekly column for Business Week Magazine.
This week we'd like to feature one of the Welch's Business Week columns on the topic of how to determine if a job is right for you. Jack and Suzy Welch offer some great questions for job seekers which can also be used by hiring managers to help determine if a candidate is a good fit within one's organization.

Could things be better in your organization? Does your organization have problems?
Of course it does! All organizations have problems.
How do you deal with your organization's challenges? Do you wait for somebody to come up with a solution and follow their lead? Or worse, do you complain to others about the situation, fueling the fire?
